This is the first in a series of ‘Paired’ images that I will be creating for this blog. I find it hugely satisfying to bring two, often quite disparate images together and in doing so create a visual connection between them. Here I have paired a photograph by Brigitte Niedermair with a charcoal drawing by Matisse were the black mesh of the tights echo the bold, diagonal cross hatching of the drawing. You can view more of Brigitte’s work here http://www.brigitteniedermair.com/ and read the Tate’s guide to Matisse at https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artists/henri-matisse-1593
