Large scale ceramic wall piece with textured surface. Holding the piece is usually the only way of giving the viewer an idea of the scale. It is backed on board with a dual hanging system.
Planning Next Piece – the largest to date 57″ X 36″
Individual components/tiles that make up the larger pieces
Collograph print. After taking up printmaking a few years ago it has become a source of inspiration for my primary material clay. Collograph prints are a ‘collage’ of materials that come together to make a complete plate. My large scale ceramic pieces are constructed in the same way – a collection of smaller components makeing up a larger piece. This allows me to make large scale pieces in a relatively small kiln.
A smaller piece of ceramic were I started to assemble the ceramic shards to give the piece depth and tactility. I often break up work that I am dissatisfied with and I found that incorporating these rejected elements into newer pieces gave them a new lease of life and provided a contrasting element to the existing piece.
